Curious About Micro Needling

Updated: Jul 31

Perhaps you’ve heard of Micro Needling. Maybe you know someone who’s had Micro Needling, and you’re curious. You want more information to decide if this is right for you.

I will say, when I was introduced to Micro Needling, I didn’t know much about it. And now, having experienced it myself and after studying with one of the leading practitioners in the country, I feel like, ‘how the heck did I not know about this gem sooner?!’ Micro Needling has become part of my regular skin care and my skin has never looked better.

Beauty is way more than how you look to others. It is about how you FEEL in your body, in your skin. My intention with Micro Needling, is to help you feel good in your skin and allow your inner light to shine bright. When you FEEL beautiful, you LOOK beautiful. You have a glow about you, a je ne sais quoi. That's what Micro Needling can enhance and bring out.

Now, let's get to some Q & A...

In this BLOG, I am going to talk about…

What is Micro Needling?

Micro Needling, also known as Collagen induction therapy, is a once a month treatment that uses micro needles in a specialized tool to penetrate the skin, creating micro traumas along the surface of the skin. These micro traumas stimulate the body’s innate immune response to initiate the healing process. During a treatment, the skin is deeply exfoliated and old skin cells can be cleared away, allowing fresh skin cells to regenerate. Micro Needling treatments stimulate the production of collagen and elastin naturally. Collagen and elastin are what give the skin structure, resilience, and elasticity. They can create tighter, more radiant skin. No injections, fillers, or chemicals are used in this process.

In fact, I only use organic and vegan skincare products for every treatment.

What are some conditions that can benefit from Micro Needling?

  • fine lines and wrinkles

  • multiple lines around mouth

  • crows feet

  • forehead lines

  • bunny lines

  • eleven lines

  • acne scars and other scars

  • thinning hair (ie. thinning eyebrows)

  • stretch marks

  • large pores

  • hyperpigmentation

  • uneven skin tone and texture

What are some benefits that are typically experienced from Micro Needling?

  • Increased absorption of serums and skin care products up to 1000% (Micro Needling penetrates the barrier of the skin, allowing the molecules of serum to absorb more easily and readily)

  • Collagen production

  • Elastin production

  • Little down time

  • Increases circulation

  • Balance of discoloration and uneven textures

  • Hair restoration

  • Smoother skin and reduced lines and wrinkles

How does Micro Needling work?

A Micro Needling pen containing several needles is used to create micro channels along the skin, which stimulate the body’s natural healing cascade. This initiates an increase of collagen and elastin production. collagen and elastin can create tighter, more radiant skin. This healing cascade is what smooths out wrinkles and minimizes the appearance of scars with a series of treatments. This healing cascade signals different cell types, including new fibroblasts, to rush and mend the place of trauma. These new fibroblasts then transform into collagen fibers which integrate with existing collagen in the upper layer of the skin. The new collagen fibers thicken the skin, fill in wrinkles and encourage growth of healthy new skin cells.

What are the side effects of Micro Needling?

After a Micro Needling treatment, the skin may be red for 12-24 hours. You may experience itching, irritation, flaking, or burning. That is all normal. The skin is going through its process of healing. You may notice pigmentation changes or pinpoint bleeding. Micro Needling has very low risk for serious side effects or complications.

How can I maximize the benefits of treatment?

Coming in for Micro Needling is an investment in yourself and your health. There are some things you can do to maximize the results of your treatments.

  1. Avoid spending too much time in the sun. Sunlight actually breaks down our collagen and accelerates signs of aging. Minimize your time in direct sun and wear sunscreen anytime you plan on being outdoors for an extended period of time.

  2. Keep your face clean and do not wear make up the first week after treatment. This creates the best scenario for your skin as it is healing.

  3. Incorporate Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture in between your Micro Needling sessions. These treatments work synergistically and the benefits are enhanced when combined together.

Why choose Micro Needling?

This is a holistic alternative to injections and cosmetic surgery that addresses fine lines and wrinkles, signs of aging, crows feet, and hair loss, to name a few. Many of us are looking for natural options to look and feel more refreshed and radiant. Micro Needling allows you to tend to yourself, practice some self love, so you feel vibrant as you move through your day.

Who should avoid Micro Needling?

  • Pregnant

  • On blood thinners

  • Currently undergoing chemo or radiation

  • Severe skin conditions (psoriasis, rosacea, eczema, infection, warts, herpes outbreak)

  • Keloid scarring
